Mwaah

Annika and Anna discovered their passion for voice, music, improvisation and movement during their time together in Cologne. Inspired by their first vocal recordings, including an intro for artist Uwe Lacto at the legendary Berlin club Sisyphos in August 2019, they decided to form the duo Mwaah after moving to their new home in Hamburg.

Mwaah is a fusion of DJ sets live vocals voice-generated soundscapes, vocal recordings, and an energetic performance that integrates hand puppets and expressive dance. Their musical signature is a hypnotic mix of genres like slow tech, dark disco, slow trance, indie dance and downtempo, typically ranging from 100 to 118 BPM. By deliberately slowing down many tracks, they add unique depth and a distinctive groove to their sets.

Their debut at Hamburg’s Südpol club in celebration of International Women’s Day was a special moment: for the occasion, they chose the theme “Goat,” playing with the symbolism and expressive power of the term in a refreshingly creative way.

In 2023, they celebrated another milestone by performing at Fusion Festival’s Tanzwüste stage, where they captivated a large audience with a fascinating desert-themed performance. In addition to their live performances, Annika and Anna are increasingly involved in co-productions. For artist Bepo, they developed the lyrics and vocals for his track.
